Mad Genius Comics

Thanks for checking out my first creator-owned web comic. If you’re not my mom, then I have at least twice the readership I expected.

Hope you liked Johnny Zombie. Hope you’ll come back for more and stick around for what’s next— because I’ve got a ton of ideas. That’s why the site’s called Mad Genius Comics and not Johnny Zombie— this is where I can do any kind of comic I want. Westerns? I love Westerns. 1950’s atomic monsters? Oh, yeah. And zombies— definitely more Johnny Zombie. Some I’ll write and draw myself, some I’ll write and others will draw (or pencil, while I ink), and I wouldn’t rule out me drawing someone else’s story. It’s exhilarating. It’s exhausting. It’s time.

Why? And more importantly: why now?

Long story short: The web is the future of comics, no doubt about it, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to make it part of my future for years. But the pieces wouldn’t quite fit.

And then my wife and I decided to adopt a baby.

That’s pretty mad all by itself— we’re not that far from our nieces and nephews starting their own families— but it feels right. So we’re doing it. Funny how that changes everything.

Mad Genius is my legacy. The comics and characters that appear here are what I will leave behind for our kid. I don’t expect to get rich. I doubt I’ll break even, and would be shocked— but not upset, mind you— if I eked out minimum wage. I’m in it for the long haul. I’m following the “Iron Man Business Plan”— exist in obscurity for 40 years, then have a hugely successful Hollywood movie made and become an overnight sensation. Anything that happens faster than that is icing on the cake.

One last thing: Mom? Happy Birthday! (Yeah— my mom was born on Halloween. Explains a lot, doesn’t it?)
